Update from Creator Darryl Andrews

I have elected to remove 'Captain Nepto Prime' August from this year's schedule. My reasoning is, that to publish the 'last' Captain Nepto story with the Invincibles storyline only half revealed would be premature. That does not mean that new Captain Nepto stories will not be published this year. I am happy to update fans of this site that Spy Classics #4 has all principle artwork completed and will be released as a Winter edition.
This classic retelling of the famous Captain Nepto Annual #1 features the incredible team-up of The Spy-Master and Nepto. There are other projects on the drawing board that will satisfy even the most disappointed fan of the the 'Prime' series. Please enjoy the sneak peak of the cover for Spy Classics #4.

1st Look!!!

An ominously huge event overshadows reality this week, and it has been almost wholly neglected in the national press. Kendall [Mark] Andrews has returned to DFG!!!
Long before Todd Abbot became an Icon, there was Mark Andrews. And his legend? Underrated, in some ways unrealized -- and like the man himself, understated.

Andrews’ renown receded quickly, possibly because he never finished his last assignment...the dreaded DFG fifteen page annual!! Andrews did manage to put out some remarkable pin-ups, but the era was issue driven. still he tried to tackle DFG's biggest challenge: the Spy 96 finale, when both Dan & Darryl resided themselves with the awlful truth that they were in fact passing the buck since they too couldn't finish the series.

But, happier days have returned. Andrews has returned, and the annual is scheduled for release later this year.

You really can go home Toto!

The Ending Is The Beginning

A.K.A. Darryl Destroys DFG Universe

Captain Nepto & Me by Creator Darryl Andrews

Nepto was my first "Super-hero" creation, therefore he had to be a REALLY big deal. Back in '81, I was reading every comicbook I could get my hands onto including: Batman, The Sub-Mariner, Spiderman, Moon Knight etc. I took the very best from every character and implemented it into him. I was just starting to learn about the value of own ego and was exercising some escapism with this character. Over the years, Nepto has always been progressive; never static. I attribute this to my own life as it mirrored constant change and no true defination. Nepto would change costumes like I would change personalty traits [drop one, pick up another]. With Nepto I could change his appearance, his powers, his orgin and offer no explanation. I tried to do the same thing with my life many times, simply by not offering any explanation for sudden personality or direction changes in my life. I wouldn't allow myself ownership over anything and frustrated all around me with how sudden I could change my stance on what to some were very important issues. All these years later, Nepto is still a work in progress. There is no character sheet that would illustrate exactly who he is. I have to think after all these years that notion was appealing to me [no simple defination], frustrating to everyone else, but right or wrong, a life coping skill I've transfered to my hero.

Captain Nepto Prime May 2008

What's In A Number Anyway?

The chronology of the Captain Nepto series is muddled at best. There have been numerous revisions over the years [and breaks] in an attempt to organize the stories and quality of art to reflect a specific timeline. There is also the numerous costume changes and issues depicting our hero in a wig and without one. Now blessed with 20/20 insight, there was probably nothing wrong with the traditional chronology other then the fact that the Jester debut lasted 5 issues and was almost as many panels long[!]. The revisionist chronology only created new questions and problems. Now with new issues on the horizon, the question arose as to where these issues would fit into the chronology. There was no simple answer since the debut of the series back in 1981 did not have an intended structure. Issues were created on an individual basis with no consideration given to a particular timeline. Therefore the events in the original series were more apart of an 'age' then a time frame. It is to this conclusion that the chronology of Captain Nepto will be recorded much the same as the Spy-Comics series. For reference purposes the 1981-1984 series will consist of the Golden ages of the history. The present day issues being released beginning in June, depicting a Golden age Captain Nepto will simply exist somewhere in that chronology without having a numeric value. The decision has also been made to not number the new Prime series but refer to the issues rather by release date then numeric value. Romantically speaking, this will further reflect the original intention of the series and provide for more freedom with creating new stories...which is all everyone really wants anyway.

BTW - this change can be of course changed by future DFG revisionists into the 'Retro' age or 'Classic' age so let's none of us worry about it!!
